Travels Across Africa - Episode Three: Crossing the Sahara.

Sep 11th, 2009 | By video | Category: AUDIO + VISUAL, Short Films

ContinentalDrifters.ca presents the third episode of the Travel’s Across Africa series, which covers our adventures through Africa, covering our journey across the Sahara Desert. In 2008, we set out to travel the west coast of Africa as far south as possible, with the hopes that we would find a way to make it to Cape Town, South Africa. Unfortunately we didn’t make it out of West Africa, but the 10 week adventure that ensued was still filled with many exciting moments, from Marrakesh to the Sahara Desert, and further into the center of West Africa in Dogon Country, and National Parks in Benin.

Episode Three - Crossing the Sahara.

Episode Two left off in Essouria, after some time spent in Marrakesh, and was our last moments in a world that resembled what we know of life. As we crossed the last mountain range, separating North Africa from “the Desert”, we came out of the last mountain pass, and our lives changed. The world was flat, and there were no landmarks. Fortunately, we travelled near the coast, so there was something, every once and a while that gave us some entertainment. Our patience was tested by the long drives without a mental break. We got excited by giant sand dunes in the distance, or the occasional tree. Being cramped in a stuffy bus while the temperatures reached into the 50’s was challenge enough, but the mental challenge of nothingness proved to be worse. This video chronicles our crossing of the Sahara Desert.

Stay tuned for Episode Four, which covers our arrival in West Africa. Without any further delay, here is the second installment of the “Travels Across Africa” series.
