The Journey to Land’s End
ContinentalDrifters.ca presents it’s first short film; “The Journey to Land’s End”. Filmed in 2008, this video chronicles the ContinentalDrifters.ca correspondents, Rob Sweatman and Stewart Gary, as they travel to the farthest Southwest Point of England; Land’s End. During our travels along the south coast of England - which began in London and continued along the coast, from Brighton to Land’s end - we captured a few short videos, and this short film is the climax of those travels.
These videos we’re then pieced together upon returning home - they we’re never intended to be a short film - and records our arrival at Land’s End. We spent the night before in Penzance, on the other side of the peninsula, and in the morning, with clear skies and nothing better to do, began to hike in the direction of Land’s End. We followed the signs as they counted down from “10″, slowly realizing that England uses miles instead of kilometers. After walking half the distance - see the above photo - we realized that we would run out of daylight if we kept up our pace, and more importantly, miss the last bus back to Penzance. So we hitch-hiked the for a couple miles, and walked the last stretch - passing the first (and last) bar’s, hotels and restaurants along the way - to our final destination; Land’s End.
This video shows our triumphant last steps.
Coming to England in the first place was a snap decision; we were in Ghana (Africa), had run out of space in our passports and wanted to leave before the pending elections. So we searched the internet for the cheapest flight - which turned out to be London and off we went. Upon arriving in England - in December, which isn’t the best time to try and travel on the cheap anywhere in Europe - and decided to pick one last “destination” before returning back to Canada. This is what we achieved.
So, without any further delay, here is the first (and certainly not the last) ever Short Film by the Continental Drifters, “The Journey to Land’s End”.
