Photography: Welsh Castles.

Our adventures in England lasted for just under a month. After flying into London, and covering the south coast from Brighton to Land’s End, we finally ended up in Bristol, where we stayed with a friend of ours from Canada. While staying in Bristol over the Christmas holidays - a vacation within a vacation - we rented a car and undertook a few side trips to the nearby country-side. A trip down to Cheddar Gorge and the town of Glastonbury on a rainy day provided little in the way of great photography, but our trip into Wales was blessed with amazing weather and as a result, some amazing photos! Famous for the medieval ruins that litter the country side, our castle hunt was a success, spending an hour at both Raglan Castle and Careg Cenen castles, before returning to England.

Having ‘only’ been to the U.K. twice (a two day stopover and a 8 day guided tour), I really wanted to explore a new corner of the Island, and traveling to Wales allowed me to cross this off the list (and another country off the list). After spending a few days recharging our battery’s in Bristol, and coming to terms with the end of our 3 month trip (which included 2 months in Africa), we set into motion the plans that would send us home. The last leg of our journey would take us back across the border into Wales, and towards the North-West, where we would catch a ferry to Dublin, and eventually a flight home.
